Michelle Carvill - Co-Founder / Director, Can Marketing Save The Planet Ltd. Co-host of the podcast series, Can Marketing Save the Planet?. Sustainable marketing consultant, 6x published author. Championing sustainable marketing and leadership, working with organisations and individuals across industries on strategy, education and implementation. Developed a range of training solutions to support driving marketers to use their skills, creativity and influence as a force for good and organisations in driving a more sustainable future.

Course Director for CIM, teaching sustainable marketing strategy, faculty member for Cambridge Judge Business School’s ‘Sustainable Marketing Leadership’ programme and teach for the DMAnc in the USA. 

Other training programmes developed in the sustainable marketing arena include the development of Carbon Literacy Trust certified ‘Carbon Literacy for Marketers’.

Whilst for two decades she focused on digital transformation, digital and social media strategy and led a digital agency, since writing and researching the co-authored book, Sustainable Marketing - How to drive profits with purpose’ - published by Bloomsbury, 21st January 2021 - (which won ‘Highly Commended’ in the 2022 Business Book Awards), Michelle has immersed herself in championing sustainable marketing bringing education and awareness to the approximate 10.6M marketers on the planet, to use their skills, creativity and influence as a force for good. Aligned with this endeavour, together with fellow Director and co-author, Gemma Butler, she co-hosts the Can Marketing Save the Planet podcast, and has created the Sustainable Marketing Manifesto (a hippocratic oath for responsible marketing. Can Marketing Save the Planet Ltd is on a mission to align the approx. 10.6M marketers on the planet.

In May 2021 she qualified with Nottingham Business School on their Sustainability and Inclusive Leadership (SAIL) course and certified Carbon Literate with The Carbon Literacy Trust - and developed the first certified Carbon Literacy Training for Marketers.

As a marketer, her work in marketing and digital is extensive, and over the past decade she has authored four books on the topic of digital and social media strategy. A hands-on practitioner, in 2002 she founded digital agency, Carvill Creative. In 2018 founded a social enterprise, focused on preventative healthcare - The Preventative Healthcare Service .

In Jan 2021, recognised as one of the UK’s Top 100 Inspirational Business Women by Small Business Britain. In March 2021, shortlisted as Digital Woman of the Year - and nominated for Businesswoman of the Year for the Women’s Business Awards 2021. A regular contributor to Business Insider - and in April 2021 cited by Business Insider in their Top 10 UK Social Media Experts. In 2022, both Michelle and her Can Marketing Save the Planet fellow Director, Gemma Butler, were awarded the Special Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Marketing by Women in Marketing.

Championing Sustainable Marketing

Of late her focus and talks have focused on explaining the role marketing can play in driving a more sustainable and responsible business agenda, speaking with Conde Nast, Deloitte, Boston Scientific, Dulux, The Royal Mint, DeLonghi, WSP, CIM, Judge Cambridge Business School, MarketingKind, Global Media, Capital Group, ClimateSavers, Cranfield, University of Edinburgh, University of Dundee, DMA, CIPD, CIIC and other organisations, agencies, universities and business schools around the globe.

Recognised as a genuine thought-leader, she is a contributor to BBC Radio, CIM and numerous magazines and trade journals as an expert in the field.

Michelle’s had a career in strategic marketing for over 30 years. And whilst in Michelle’s view, there’s nothing like hands-on experience to truly understand real-world challenges and how to overcome them, she is a fully qualified strategic marketer, with a MA in Marketing Strategy, a CIM Diploma and a CIM Fellowship (Chartered Institute of Marketing) and a First in Sustainability and Inclusive Leadership from Nottingham Trent University and Carbon Literacy Certification from The Carbon Literacy Trust.

Michelle has worked with clients around the world both face to face and digitally - across a range of sizes and sectors, professional services, banking, creative, PR, finance, retail, public sector and manufacturing.

To stay sane, grounded and focused amongst all this ‘plate spinning’, Michelle is a yogi. She’s been practising yoga for over 30 years - and qualified as a yoga teacher in 2014.
